Job Overview
The post holder will be responsible for providing expert safeguarding advice to midwifery staff and supporting and working alongside the Health Safeguarding Team.
All staff must work in accordance with the Children and Young People (Jersey) Law 2022 and Children and Young People’s Statutory Guidance (2024) and the post holder is required to promote excellent professional practice within Health Care Jersey supporting the local safeguarding systems and processes.

The post holder will act as an advocate for unborn babies, children and vulnerable pregnant women at risk of harm and abuse, raising awareness of harm and abuse ensuring the voice of those involved is captured and desired outcomes achieved.

To provide health representation in the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH within the Children & Families Hub, responsible for interpreting and sharing information that is necessary to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. Ensure that there is appropriate pre-birth assessment and planning to safeguard children and vulnerable groups, with effective communication of recommendations of discharge arrangements for the newborn baby and family support. Maintain a high visible presence in clinical areas and provide expert advice and support when required. Act as a role model for health staff promoting safeguarding best practice and promote a Think Family approach To support with any internal investigations. Assist in the delivery of adult and child safeguarding training for staff. To participate in the development and delivery of a training strategy. Provide expert advice and support to staff to empower their development in their safeguarding responsibilities and promote safeguarding as an integral part of practice. Provide safeguarding supervision to staff .Attend meetings and sub-groups as required. Attend and represent HCJ at learning reviews . Participate in regular monitoring and audits and development and update of policies and procedures

To work with the Named Nurses in the embedding and further development of safeguarding champions across HCS. To work alongside the named Nurses to disseminate safeguarding Information and share good practice. Promote a culture of best practice across the health economy in relation to safeguarding. To manage the sharing of confidential and highly sensitive information with other agencies; providing and receiving complex information within the safeguarding arena .Update the Named Nurse of current concerns and trends expressed by staff . Assist in the monitoring of quality improvement / audit as part of a clinical governance and quality assurance framework for safeguarding .Use interpersonal and communication skills to manage highly sensitive information .Work with IDVA manager and team to implement the Domestic Abuse Health Pathway .Contribute to the screening of safeguarding referrals with the support of the Named Nurse . Work collaboratively with the Named Nurse for Adult Safeguarding / Safeguarding Children and the Safeguarding Adult/Children’s Advisors, to ensure roles develop and complement each other to guarantee appropriate cover is provided at all times.
