Job Purpose
The post holder will work as part of a dedicated team carrying out statutory duties within a home treatment team, using key skills to effectively carry out comprehensive mental health and risk assessments. Being able to appropriately support service users as to manage risk and meet identified needs. Incorporating carers and significant others in the individuals care.
To provide a resource of specialised mental health intervention, face to face to people who require support through a crisis, providing a multi-disciplinary approach that best suits the clinical need of the service user.
To offer increased and additional input as an alternative to an in-patient admission.
To provide professional day to day leadership to the multi-disciplinary team and associated staff within the specific area of service. This is an autonomous and authoritative role, involving multidisciplinary and multiagency working. It requires specialist knowledge evidenced by the relevant post graduate study, with high levels of professional wisdom, confidence, and maturity.

Job Specific Outcomes
- To protect, promote and monitor the safety and welfare of individuals and their carers by holistically assessing individual needs and developing and designing care and intervention plans, treating each person as a unique individual. Wherever possible to promote their individual views and wishes in order to be able to support the individual’s rights, by adopting a least restrictive approach.
- Applies specialist knowledge and analytical skills in supporting service users to make informed decisions to improve the quality of their lives by minimising the impact of their mental illness and psychosocial stressors on their life. To safeguard the lives of vulnerable people, promote recovery focused interventions, which is often in highly emotive situations where there are high levels of complexity, uncertainty, crisis and risk.
- To lead establishing and maintaining the trust and confidence of individuals and their carers by communicating in an appropriate, open, accurate, transparent, and straightforward way. Clearly explaining service policies and the professional role and responsibilities of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues to empower service users and carers, maximise service user independence, and ensure the protection of islander’s human rights.
Qualifications
- Level 1 Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with NMC registration.
- Mandatory registration with Jersey Care Commission on appointment and must maintain registration yearly.
- Professional Degree.
Knowledge
- Specialist knowledge of different mental disorders. Sever and enduring mental illness such as psychotic disorders, and mood disorders. Anxiety related disorders.
- Effective safety planning in crisis situation and the ability for positive risk taking.
- Specialist knowledge of the pharmacological and psychosocial interventions available for the treatment of mental disorders.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of Health and Community Services policies and procedures.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of the principles of safeguarding and the relevant policies and procedures for both adults and children.
- Work Collaboratively with people who use the service and their carers in the implementation and development of care plans in a timely manner.
Technical Work Based Skills
- Excellent developed mental health assessment skills
- Computer literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Microsoft Outlook, and other role specific applications.
- Full Driving Licence
General skills / attributes
- Ability to act autonomously in role and be directly legally accountable for own professional practice.
- Ability to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities which require the formulation of long term plans and strategies.
- Ability to communicate highly complex information in a hostile, antagonistic or highly emotive atmosphere.
- Excellent report writing skills and the ability to produce complex reports in a timely manner.
- Ability to contribute to the development of policies, procedures and protocols relating to the role.
- Ability to coordinate inter-agency working, delegating appropriately between Agencies, and providing professional leadership.
Experience
- Minimum of Four years post qualifying experience in mental health
