Job Overview
To meet customers and to ensure wastes are being delivered in the appropriate manner while ensuring the safety of the staff, customers and users of the Energy Recovery Facility. Ensure that all waste and recyclables delivered to the Department’s facilities are disposed of in the correct manner. To undertake ash bagging on site and take ownership of process and ensure all procedures are adhered to. To provide a high standard of customer service to all our clients who use any of the waste reception sites, administered by the Government of Jersey. This position is predominantly to cover the ash bagging process on site, this is a lone working task which will undertake most of the working day, however during the day and during maintenance outages the site advisor may be required to help in the BW section or in other areas of the plant. This is a varied role which would suit someone who can, and is happy to work alone, but also can work in a team and is willing to undertake different tasks around the plant.

Job Specific Outcomes
The Energy Recovery Site Advisor may be required, on a daily basis to:
• Provide information and direction to our customers in relation to waste disposal and recycling and when required assist customers with the disposal/recycling of waste.
• Ensure that all waste received at the reception sites is in accordance with the Waste license. Sorting of mixed loads.
• Undertake general site manual work to include (not limited to) cleaning duties, packaging and stacking of waste items in order to provide safe and clean waste reception sites, removing contaminated wastes.
• Undertake and take ownership of ash bagging on site, ensure this is completed in accordance to procedure and the necessary H&S requirements are met.
• Have experience or wiliness to be trained in driving forklift or telehandler.
• Carry out banksmen duties when plant and/or commercial vehicles are operating on the reception sites.
• Handle various hazardous wastes, such as but not limited to discarded chemicals, paints, TV’s and computer monitors.
• Sort waste material into the correct waste collection receptacle.
• Report, monitor and/or reject any non-compliance waste with respect to the receiving and handling of waste.
• Report any damage to property/items requiring maintenance or repair. • Understand and work within the safe working practices of the department. • In the event of inclement weather - clear away mud, snow and ice from the entrance and the reception sites.
• Undertake duties associated with the weighing of waste.
• Inform the Managers of any chargeable waste that comes on site.
• Promote the possibility to commercial customers of recycling their waste and offer guidance where required.
Knowledge
Knowledge of the relevant Health and Safety legislation and practices

General skills / attributes
Must possess a good standard of education and have demonstrable experience in a customer focused environment. The ability to communicate verbally in English is essential. Good verbal communication skills, common sense, diplomacy, mature and understanding manner as the post-holder will often be the first point of contact when dealing with members of the general public. Ability to deal with awkward customers, queries and complaints is essential. The ability to learn and understand recycling and waste disposal information. A good level of physical fitness is essential as the job is strenuous and sometimes requires dealing with unpleasant waste including oil, human and animal matter
