JCG - Teacher of English with Key Stage Responsibility
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and inspirational Teacher of English, to become part of our team at Jersey College for Girls. The successful applicant will be required to deliver a planned programme of learning through which students acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills required to master the subject. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and inspirational classroom practitioner, to join our successful English and Media Faculty. In addition, the successful candidate will take on the role of KS co-ordinator which attracts an SA1.

Principal Teaching Accountabilities
- Teach English across all key stages 3, 4 and 5 to achieve the highest academic standards and learning opportunities.
- Assist in the creation and review of appropriate documentation such as schemes of learning and policies.
- Plan effectively to ensure that all individual student learning needs are met.
- Advise the Head of Faculty on issues relating to the learning and teaching of English and ensure effective resource management.
- Follow departmental policy for effective monitoring, marking and tracking of student progress and use assessment data to ensure all students have individual targets and are supported in all areas of their work.
- Ensure learning and teaching programmes take account of the latest developments in education and evaluate their impact upon teaching and learning, ensuring that appropriate use is made of up to date technology.

7. Attend and contribute to relevant departmental meetings and take an appropriate share of the administrative duties of the faculty.
8. Assist in developing curriculum links with universities and other organisations to promote English within the College.
9. Undertake regular reviews of teaching practice and accompanying documentation as determined by the evaluation process of the school and faculty.
10.Contribute to a full programme of extra-curricular opportunities.
11.Ensure the profile of English is raised both within the College and the wider community through networking, frequent media releases and internal announcements as directed by the Head of Faculty.
12.Contribute to parents’ meetings, the mentoring programme, staff teams, and reports and references for students as appropriate.
13.Ensure all health and safety regulations are adhered to both on and off site.

14.Be willing to undertake appropriate professional development and training as needed to keep at the leading edge of learning and teaching. e.g. subject developments and new qualifications or specifications.
15.Undertake any other task as may be reasonably requested by the Principal or the Head of Faculty.
Key Stage Responsibilities
- Monitor, analyse and evaluate the progression and attainment of English students and develop strategies, leading the sharing of practice, to ensure high levels of student progress, success and achievement.
- In conjunction with the Head of Faculty, analyse student performance data and organise the class groupings to ensure students’ individual needs are met and that all achieve a good pace of progression. Monitor these groupings and place new students as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain departmental records of English students through tracking documents and monitor progress.
- Develop and maintain relevant schemes of learning, in discussion/liaison with the Head of Faculty, to provide a differentiated schemes to meet the needs of all students.
- Ensure that the English database, website and publications are maintained and updated regularly.
- Manage departmental resources, text supplies and subscriptions, and evaluate the use of these on a regular basis.

7.Liaise with the library and look for opportunities to promote reading through wider reading lists, displays and reading groups.
8.Promote the importance of English through supporting the transition between Key Stages, including the organisation of taster sessions, induction and information evenings.
9. Ensure continuity and progression of curriculum, achievement and the development of skills between Key Stages.
10.Advise the Head of Faculty and department on the latest initiatives and developments within your area. Research and facilitate training opportunities to support the professional development of staff in English.
12.Support staff in the delivery of the English curriculum, conducting formal and informal lesson observations and visits as appropriate.
13.Organise internal examinations and assessments, and, where relevant, work in liaison with the Exams Officer to co-ordinate the administration of external examinations.

14.Co-ordinate and manage the administration around assessments, including coursework assessments where relevant.
15.Contribute to departmental self-evaluation documentation.
16.Extend the use of student questionnaires and feedback to enhance the enjoyment and learning of English.
17.Contribute to the Faculty super-curricular programme through co-ordinating relevant clubs or support clinics, and work alongside subject prefects to promote English through extra-curricular engagement.
18.Develop links with outside agencies including local businesses, organisations such as the theatre etc. to develop the learning experience for students.
19.Organise and coordinate events, trips and study days to promote learning in English and promote participation in competitions.
20.Ensure that cover work is available for classes in the event that a colleague is absent and no work is set.

21.Lead relevant section of departmental meetings and write departmental minutes if required.
22.Attend Island meetings, including moderation meetings, as required for your role.
