Job Purpose

To Manage and deliver a range of youth work opportunities that promote the personal, political and social development needs of younger people.

Delivery is carried out in a variety of settings e.g street-based work, youth centres, schools, cafes and mobiles ect.

Job Specific Outcomes

To ensure the projects youth work delivery is relevant to the purpose of the project, needs of young people and is consistent with the youth service Curriculum Outcomes Framework.

 

To establish and maintain relationships and networks with relevant stake holders and contacts within the local parish/community.

 

To identify, create and facilitate both formal and informal leaning opportunities /sessions for young people. This will be achieved using a wide range of delivery methods and resources.

 

To manage resources allocated to the project ensuring that they are effectively utilised and administered including, fittings, vehicles, equipment

 

To carry out administrative duties associated with the project. This includes financial aspects which need to be presented to advisory groups, JYS (Jersey Youth Service) leadership team, the principal youth officer, external partners and the Government of Jersey as required.

 

To promote the service by maintaining the range of communication and promotional mediums

 

To take responsibility for own personal and continuing professional development.

 

Qualifications

Hold or be willing to achieve a professional youth work qualification in youth and community studies or equivalent which is recognised buy the J.N.C

 

A Valid first aid at work qualification

Knowledge

Knowledge of diverse range of opportunities that can be offered to young people as part of the youth work curriculum

Technical Work Based Skills

A working knowledge of IT packages (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) 

 

Knowledge of health and safety issues to include the ability to carry out risk assessments.

 

A valid and full driving license.

General skills / attributes

Use own initiative in regard to problem-solving negotiation and influencing skills.

 

Organisational and time management skills.

 

Ability to develop innovative approaches to change and service delivery.

 

Ability to lead motivate and manage teams to facilitate achievement of high delivery and performance and manage poor behaviour.

 

Strong relationship building skills.

 

Ability to present effectively and confidently, both verbally and in writing.

 

Experience

Minimum of 12 months experience in a youth work or equivalent.
