Job Overview

Highlands College is seeking a Co-ordinator for Student Experience, Enrichment and Participation. The postholder will be part of the Student Life Team, contributing towards the implementation and coordination of an effective enrichment, participation and PSHE programme for all college students. The successful candidate should have experience of working with young people between the age of 16 to 25 years, with a good understanding of informal education and safeguarding procedures.

Job Purpose

The role of the Coordinator for Student Life and Cross College Participation includes a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing the educational experience and personal development of students, including, Learner Voice, Enrichment, Rights Respecting College, Student led Sustainability, Emotional Wellbeing and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic education)

 

The postholder will be part of the Student Life Team, under the leadership of the Head of Student Life. They will work cross-college to provide an outstanding service for students, families, staff, and external stakeholders that will reduce barriers to learning and create aspirational opportunities for the students and student body.

• Support for Student Life Initiatives - The Coordinator for Student Life & Cross College Participation enhances student engagement, well-being, and inclusion across the college, directly contributing to a positive, supportive, and inclusive college culture.

 

• Student Reps and Ambassadors - By effectively recruiting, training, and supporting Student Reps and Ambassadors, the postholder empowers students to take on leadership roles, amplifying student voices and promoting a strong, active student community.

 

• Student Voice – Coordinate the development and implementation of the Student Voice, the coordinator ensures that student concerns are addressed, and their needs are met, which fosters a responsive and student-centred environment, increasing student satisfaction and trust.

 

• Participation and Enrichment - Organising participation and enrichment events both within the college and with external stakeholders, the postholder enriches the student experience, encouraging broader student involvement, enhancing social cohesion, and offering diverse learning opportunities.

 

• Rights Respecting Initiatives - By maintaining and leading the College's Rights Respecting initiatives, the coordinator embeds respect for students' rights and responsibilities into the college ethos, promoting a safe and supportive learning environment. 

 

• Sustainability Guidance - Providing sustainability guidance and supporting student-led initiatives, the postholder helps cultivate a culture of environmental responsibility, aligning the college’s practices with global sustainability goals, and preparing students to be conscientious global citizens.

 

• PSHE Education - Supporting PSHE education, the coordinator ensures that students receive essential life skills and knowledge, supporting their personal development, mental health, and well-being, which is critical for their overall success and resilience.

 

• Information and Advisory Role - By providing information and advice during Parents’ Evenings and Student Engagement Programs, the postholder facilitates better communication between the college and families, helping students and their families understand key expectations, which supports student success and retention.

 

• College App Management - The coordinator ensures that students are well-informed about important changes and opportunities, enhancing communication and ensuring that students can take full advantage of the resources and opportunities available to them.

 

• Promotion of Equality and Diversity - The coordinator's commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and learner involvement ensures that all students have access to the support they need, fostering an inclusive environment where all students feel valued and empowered to participate fully in college life.

 

• External Relationships and Resource Management - By establishing and strengthening relationships with external agencies and managing resources effectively, the postholder ensures that students have access to high-quality enrichment services, which enhances their overall educational experience and supports their holistic development

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to A Level or Level 3 equivalent in a subject related area (Education, Youth Work, Social Science or Health)

 

Child & Adult Protection training (level 3 or equivalent)

 

Desirable

Level 4 diploma in a subject related area (Education, Youth Work, Social Science or Health)

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge and understanding of a range of factors that may contribute to non-attendance in school/college. This will include students at risk of being ‘not in education, employment or training’ (NEET), emotionally based non-attendance and other children and young people who may be placed in the category of ‘truant’.

 

Working knowledge of Jersey Education legislation relevant to the post

 

High standard of written English.

 

Working knowledge of Jersey legislation in relation to Safeguarding and Child & Adult Protection

 

Desirable

Demonstrable knowledge in typical/a typical child development.

 

Demonstrate a knowledge of informal education and it’s benefit in a formal educational setting

 

Demonstrate a good knowledge of sustainability, and carbon literacy.

Technical Work Based Skills

Essential

The ability to keep and maintain high quality records in line with Highlands College requirements/guidance

 

A strong commitment to working as part of a team

 

A high degree of self motivation, good organisational skills and a flexible approach, including the ability to work outside of core hours on some occasions

 

Well-developed ICT skills. This would include some knowledge of Microsoft Systems (e.g. Office 365).

 

A current driving licence and the ability to travel across the island

Experience

Essential

Experience of engaging and supporting families directly. This will include the ability to identify strengths, foster self sufficiency and promote independence in families.

 

Experience of working with children, young people and their families

 

Excellent interpersonal skills evidenced by the ability to communicate effectively with a wide professional audience and a broad client base.

 

Awareness of professionals available to support children and families, and the ability to develop cooperative and collaborative working relationships. As part of this an awareness of own/others’ professional boundaries and contributions

Safeguarding

Working knowledge of Jersey legislation in relation to Safeguarding and Child & Adult Protection.
