Job Purpose

To make a broad and positive contribution to Inclusion Teams in line with key strategic priorities. To enable the Department to fulfil its statutory duties relating to children and young people who have, or may have, special educational needs. To deliver psychological services involving the application of specialist skills and expertise, to provide support and challenge to schools and other settings with a view to promoting best outcomes for vulnerable learners and in line with the Government of Jersey Inclusion Policy. To support the planning and management of effective transitions for vulnerable learners (aged 0-19 years). To support and inform the development of enabling and collaborative networks between professionals, learners, schools and other settings. A commitment to multi-professional working. To work in partnership with other teams forming The Psychology and Wellbeing Service. To inspire parental confidence through working in close partnership. To promote the voice and participation of children and young people in all aspects of the role and to fully engage with children and young people, recognising their role as client and stakeholder. To ensure that issues relating to equality of opportunity and child protection are paramount within the role of the educational psychologist, and that all island-wide procedures are adhered to. To develop a lead role with a view to supporting and assisting Inclusion service managers in the development, co-ordination and delivery of strategy, policy and projects in this area.

• To respond to formal notification and requests for assessment from the Department. This includes parental requests for assessment.

• To provide psychological profiles/reports (outlining children's strengths and difficulties) and formal psychological advice to inform Records of Needs.

• To liaise with and provide advice and support to pre-school settings, other professionals and agencies and in line with key priorities. Services to School Age Pupils (5-19 years)

• To support schools in developing their capacity to support all vulnerable learners.

• To advise teachers through consultation on how to support pupils with special educational needs in both mainstream schools, provisions and special schools. • To monitor the progress of pupils who may have special educational needs, and to provide advice to the Department on request.

• To provide psychological advice for formal assessments in a timely, efficient manner in accordance with operational standards.

• To support pupils through the use of psychological assessment and interventions (either direct/therapeutic support or intervention through consultation), ensuring that all interventions are evidenced based, anti-discriminatory and where the welfare of the pupil is paramount. • To contribute to annual review and reassessment of pupils with a Record of Needs. This could be for pupils either on or off Island.

• To liaise with other professionals and outside agencies in the best interest of partnership

 • To keep abreast of current practice/research, advise and represent CYPES and Inclusion accordingly and inform strategy in this area. This would include ensuring policy documents in this area remain current/up to date and available to professionals.

• To seek out, support and inform the development of enabling and collaborative networks between and across professional groups, learners, schools and other settings and parents/ carers.

• To co-ordinate action research and projects on behalf of the Department and Inclusion (where applicable).

• To contribute to the preparation and delivery of Schools' and Inclusion’s Continued Professional Development (CPD) in this area.

• To identify and work in partnership with key stakeholders/3rd sector to support activity and developments in this area. Other Duties:

• To participate in the Department's emergency response arrangements as directed by the designated officer and provide critical incident support to schools and the wider community.

• To maintain accurate service provision records and client files.

• To participate in and contribute to a range of service maintenance activities including team meetings and professional/peer supervision in relation to their work. This may also include offering clinical supervision to appropriate others e.g. School Based Counsellors.

• To participate in the full range of service maintenance activity available including team briefings; supervision; CPD; appraisal programmes.

• To undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required, and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this job.

Qualifications

BSC in Psychology (must be a degree course recognised by the British Psychological Society (BPS)) Education Doctorate in Educational Psychology and/or master’s degree in educational psychology. Registered with the Health Professions Council as an Educational Psychologist

Knowledge

Knowledge and understanding of relevant guidance, good practice and research in the area of mental health and well- being in schools (prevention/ early intervention), including function and service delivery models for schoolbased counselling services, primary mental health workers and well- being facilitators.

Technical Work Based Skills

Ability to gain Enhanced DBS clearance.
