Job Overview

We are recruiting for dedicated Examination Invigilators who will be employed on a zero hours basis to supervise students taking both internal and external examinations throughout the year with particular focus during the months of January to June. 

As an invigilator you will play a crucial part in ensuring a smooth and secure exam environment for our students at these critical times.  Responsibilities include supervising students, ensuring exam regulations are followed and maintaining a calm atmosphere.

This is a flexible, position as examinations take place in the mornings or afternoons, allowing for flexible working patterns.

No previous experience is necessary as full training will be given in line with exam board requirements.

Job Purpose

To assist in the smooth running of the examination process.

To support the examination process by supervising learners undertaking examinations in accordance with the exam boards and school requirements.

To supervise candidates in a professional and unobtrusive manner and respond to candidates’ queries in accordance with specified regulations.

To ensure that candidates comply with any awarding body or school regulations at all times to prevent possible malpractice.

To ensure that all candidates have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.

To ensure confidentiality and the security of the examination.

Job Specific Outcomes

To support the other Invigilators with the day-to-day operation of examination venues.  This activity may include:

  • Assisting with setting-up examination venues by laying out stationery, equipment and examination papers in accordance with strict procedures.
  • Assisting candidates prior to the start of examinations by directing them to their seats and advising them about possessions permitted in examination venues.
  • Ensuring that candidates do not talk once inside examination venues.
  • Invigilating during examinations, dealing with queries raised by candidates and dealing with examination irregularities in accordance with strict procedures.
  • Checking attendance during examinations.
  • Recording details of late arrivals and early leavers and collecting scripts from early leavers.
  • Escorting candidates from venues during the examinations as required, and supervising candidates whilst outside examination venues.
  • Collecting and collating scripts at the end of the examination in accordance with strict procedures.
  • Supervising candidates leaving examination venues, ensuring that candidates do not remove equipment or stationery from the venue without authorisation and ensuring that candidates leave venues in an orderly and quiet manner.

Person specification

Qualifications

A good standard of education to GCSE standard or equivalent.

Knowledge

The ability to acquire, assimilate and gain a solid working knowledge of the rules and regulations of JCQ and other exam boards or invigilators.  The ability to acquire good knowledge of routine work procedures.

General skills / attributes

Organisation, reliability, punctuality, responsibility, use of initiative and strong communication skills.

An understanding of examination processes desirable, but not essential as full training will be given.

Effective oral/written communication skills essential and the ability to provide detailed and accurate instructions and guidance to candidates.

Accuracy and attention to detail with an ability to work to predetermined instructions.

Experience

Experience of working or studying in higher education environment desirable, but not necessary.

Proven experience of working effectively as part of a team and also independently within set guidelines.
