Job Overview
We are seeking to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our Patient Transport Service, the non-emergency service within the States of Jersey Ambulance Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and reliable transportation of clients from their own home address to any given destination, including Hospital sites, Nursing Homes, Clinics or Day Centres. This role requires excellent interpersonal and driving skills.

Job Purpose
To provide an efficient transport service for clients meeting the eligibility criteria who may require assistance in walking, or be required to be transported in a wheelchair or stretcher. Utilising the specialised vehicles and equipment so that this can be carried out in a safe and comfortable manner.

1. Drive patients to receive medical treatment or day-care assistance, assisting those patients who are able to walk, if they are supported by one person.
2. Push wheelchairs where a patient cannot walk very far, or who is wheelchair bound and to get in and out of the vehicle for transporting.
3. Lift patients into or out of their wheelchairs at home or department and on occasions, transfer them from wheelchairs to vehicles. some will have to be carried in a carrying chair, if stairs are encountered and some may require to be transported by stretcher.
4. Observe patients at all times. Due to various medical conditions, which may suddenly change , they may become ill on route to their destination.
5. Ambulance Aid will be undertaken for patients who can become unwell during transporting or found not well when arriving at their destination. They may have had a fall or even collapsed. All kinds of problems like these are common.
6. Training on Ambulance equipment for treatment of patients in cases of emergency and until emergency Ambulance arrives.
7. Home Care for patients who are living alone and may well need help to get dressed and also to secure premises as they leave.
8.Cleaning & Maintenance of the vehicles and equipment daily or when on duty.
9. Report writing, simple, brief when required.
10. Major incident. Trained to support colleagues and provide equipment, carry stretcher patients to Ambulances and to transport the walking injured to Hospital.

Person specification
Qualifications
A current, full and clean driving licence, including the C1 category.
- Any manual handling training or qualifications would be beneficial.
Knowledge
A good knowledge of Jersey's roads, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a situation for the best outcome.
Technical Work Based Skills
General skills / attributes
Transportation of clients is intensive work, candidate must be physically fit to be suitable for this role.
Experience
Working with people, driving experience are beneficial.
