Job Overview

The Control and Automation Department are seeking a skilled Control and Automation Engineer to enhance the efficiency, safety, and security of our operations, with a focus on process control, operational technology (OT), SCADA/DCS, CCTV, and access control systems.

The Role

As a Control and Automation Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain advanced automated control systems for critical island infrastructure. You will also oversee the integration and performance of operational technology (OT), CCTV infrastructure, and access control systems to ensure seamless, secure, and efficient operations.  The purpose of this position is to recruit a working chargehand. The successful candidate will be expected to assist the day-to-day organisation and management of the Control and Automation Department as well as contribute as a hands-on technician.

Key Responsibilities

System Design & Integration: Develop, commission, and integrate control systems (e.g., PLCs, SCADA, HMI) to optimize I&E operations.

 

Operational Technology (OT): Configure, maintain, and secure OT systems to support robust data flow and connectivity between automation and business platforms.

 

CCTV Systems: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot CCTV systems for enhanced operational monitoring and site security.

 

Access Control Systems: Implement, maintain, and troubleshoot access control systems to ensure safe and restricted entry to facilities and secure areas.

 

Process Optimization: Analyse and optimize control systems, OT, CCTV, and access control for efficiency, reliability, and compliance with standards.

 

Cybersecurity: Apply cybersecurity best practices to safeguard OT and access control systems against potential threats.

 

Equipment Maintenance: Diagnose and repair automation, OT, CCTV, and access control systems to ensure smooth, continuous operation.

 

Compliance & Safety: Ensure all systems meet environmental, industrial, and security regulations.

 

Project Management: Lead and deliver automation, OT, CCTV, and access control projects from concept through to commissioning within defined timelines and budgets.

 

Collaboration: Work closely with process engineers, technicians, and security teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and secure solutions

What We Are Looking For

Electrical Level 3 City and Guilds or recognised equivalent qualification.

 

HNC or recognised equivalent qualification in relevant engineering discipline or working towards this level of qualification in a relevant engineering field.

 

Proven experience in control systems engineering, with knowledge of liquid waste management, water treatment, or similar industries.

 

Proficiency with Process Control Systems, SCADA systems, HMI interfaces, and industrial communication protocols.

 

Familiarity with operational technology (OT) networks, cybersecurity, and integration best practices.

 

Experience with CCTV system setup, integration, and troubleshooting.

 

Knowledge of access control systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.

 

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to dynamic operational challenges.

 

Knowledge of regulatory standards for environmental compliance, industrial automation, and security systems.

 

Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills.
