Job Overview

Engineering and Development is a section within the Operations and Transport directorate of the Government of Jersey’s Infrastructure and Environment department. Engineering and Development deliver interesting and challenging projects for various sections within the department; no one day is the same which makes this role exciting. We get involved in all kinds of projects that deliver essential infrastructure for the island of Jersey. This includes highways, coastal defences, transport, solid waste, public realm and parks, sports facilities, and car parks. We recently delivered the Les Quennevais Skatepark and Coronation Park Splashpad projects.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join our team. Working as an Engineering Technician, you will predominantly be involved in the production of engineering drawings and designs for capital engineering projects of varying scale and complexity. Assisting members of the team, you will primarily be required to produce engineering drawings to a high standard through all stages of the project delivery process including design and construction. There will also be opportunities to assist senior members of staff with project delivery on other engineering tasks.

Responsibilities

The job responsibilities are as follows:

 

  • Working as part of a team producing engineering drawings and designs for multi-disciplinary engineering projects through the various stages from conception to project completion.
  • Managing own workload to ensure projects are delivered on time.
  • Preparation of planning applications.
  • Assisting with preparing contract documents for engineering schemes.
  • Development of engineering solutions in accordance with current design standards.
  • Working in accordance with health, safety and environmental legislation and best practice.

Qualifications

Required qualifications are as follows:

  • BTEC Higher National Diploma or Certificate (HND/C), degree or equivalent plus 3 years practical experience in a relevant specialism e.g. Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Engineering Technician (EngTech) registration with the Engineering Council through a relevant professional body or is on an agreed training scheme and able to demonstrate significant progress to obtain Engineering Technician (EngTech) status.

Knowledge

Knowledge of the following is required for the job:

 

  • Drawing and design software such as Autodesk (AutoCAD, Revit, Civil3D) and Vectorworks
  • An awareness of design standards such as the DMRB, British Standards etc
  • Health, safety and environmental legislation

The technical and work based skills required for the job are as follows:

 

  • Ability to use drawing and design software such as Autodesk and Vectorworks
  • Computer literate with ability to operate the Microsoft Office package
  • Category B Jersey Driving Licence or equivalent

Experience

Experience of:

 

  • Production of drawings and designs in relation to engineering, construction, and infrastructure projects
