Job Overview
Grainville School is delighted to be the first school in Jersey to create an on-site Alternative Provision for Key Stage 3 pupils. Led by a highly experienced Alternative Curriculum Manager, academic lessons and therapeutic sessions are delivered by excellent teachers in a nurturing environment. It is a bespoke experience for small groups of our younger students, with the aim of setting them up to be successful and to thrive when returning to mainstream lessons. The Alternative Curriculum TA is a unique and exciting opportunity for an individual who wishes to work with exceptional staff and to make a significant difference to children's lives.

Job Purpose
To provide the teaching staff with appropriate support in the planning, implementation and monitoring of education programmes to enable access to learning of students and to assist the teacher in the management of students and the classroom.
To provide support to students with SEMH through 1:1 support and small group work. To assist in the assessment of the students individual needs and to support in the planning, implementation and monitoring of student’s emotional wellbeing.

- Ensure that a proactive role is undertaken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all stakeholders connected with the school
- Supervise and provide particular support for students with SEMH, in a classroom, 1:1 or small group setting and on offsite activities and to adapt this support in response to individual needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities in line with the curriculum.
- Implement agreed work programmes/practical lessons under the guidance of the teacher whenapplicable. Give feedback to the team on the progress and behaviour of the individual group or pupil within the special needs area. Observe and monitor the development of specific students, recording appropriately and applying this knowledge to future planning.
- Complete daily logs regarding student behaviour and progress
- Accompany teaching staff on visits, trips and out of school activities where appropriate

- Assist with the supervision of students out of lesson times, if necessary.
- Provide clerical/administrative support when required to.
- Ensure school policies and procedures are adhered to
- Contribute towards the review and evaluation of individual student progress over time
- Support and develop partnerships with parents, liaising with them, with the support of the teacher, to ensure consistency in approach for the students.
- Complete such other related duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be allocated, as need arises, by the Headteacher.
- Complete such administrative tasks as may reasonably be allocated by the Senior Leadsership Team
- Carry out duties in relation to statutory processes involving students and families
Qualifications
Numeracy/literacy skills to a minimum of level 2 standard
Training in at least one relevant strategy eg literacy and/or in particular curriculum or learning area e.g. MAYBO, SEN etc
Knowledge
Demonstrate flexibility, a nurturing ethos and understanding of students with SEMH needs
Be enthusiastic and committed to raising standards of attainment for all students
Ability to relate well to children and adults
Have good organisational skills to ensure a positive learning environment
Have good recording, assessment, ICT and report writing skills
Have good interpersonal skills to work with students, teaching and non- teaching staff along with parents/carers and supporting agencies
Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these
Technical Work Based Skills
Excellent time management and Organisational skills
Ability to support different programmes for students with SEMH needs - (such as emotional and social literacy – self-awareness, self- management, social awareness, relationship management, positive communication, conflict resolution, motivation)
Ability to maintain accurate records of planning and student attainment and progress
Can use ICT skills to support learning
Excellent communication skills both written and oral to liaise with all stakeholders
Contribute to team meetings on a weekly basis

Experience
Working with or caring for children of relevant age
2 years experience in working with students ideally students with SEMH challenges
