Job Overview
Health and Community Services Faculty of Health Education are looking for a Vocational Practice Educator. If you are a dynamic and motivated nurse or midwife who enjoys teaching, facilitating and developing the skills and knowledge of other healthcare professionals, then we would like to hear from you. You will need to have current NMC registration and recent experience of supporting learning in clinical practice.

Job Purpose
The Vocational Practice Educator (VPE) is responsible for delivering high quality, cost effective vocational training and education to a range of learners within HCS and the Private Sector (across island) at Regulated Credit Framework (RQF) levels 2, 3, 4 and 5, as well as assessing competence to the required levels set by the awarding body. The VPE will also undertake a variety of roles including teacher, assessor and internal quality assurer to a range of learners accessing the various RQF units, certificates, awards and diplomas; complying with the Code of Practice produced by the awarding body.

- Plan, prepare, implement and evaluate programmes of education and training for health and social care staff employed by HCS and the wider Island health and social care community.
- Lead on specific elements of teaching and accredited unit of learning ensuring adherence to the standards set by the awarding body.
- Maintain learner’s records in the learner’s portfolio and personal files so as to enable an audit trail for internal and external scrutiny. Address poor practice immediately if identified in any evidence submitted; liaising with the learner’s manager as required.
- Ensure the learners receive appropriate supervision and support whilst undertaking course clinical activities. Deal with any practice concerns raised or identified as per policy.
- Undertake the assessment of the learner’s portfolio in practice using the requirements of the awarding body standards and processes for marking and assessment; ensuring policies and regulations are adhered to.
- Manage the process when dealing with academic integrity issues in line with awarding body and VTC policies, ensuring evidence of a clear audit trail in reports produced.
- Participate in internal and external audits as required by the awarding body; acting upon feedback to maintain high standards of assessment and verification, acting as internal assessor and verifier for the awarding body.
- Maintain clinical credibility and demonstrate commitment to own professional development ensuring all resources shared with the learners are current and aligned to educational theory and best practice guidance.
- Promote healthcare as a career and provide careers advice when requested. Participate in creating resources for use on the Government of Jersey intranet and internet pages.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as may be reasonably required by HCS; ensuring compliance with HCS values and behaviours maintaining the fair and equal treatment of all learners.
Qualifications
Essential
Registered Nurse/Midwife with a minimum of 5 years clinical experience.
Relevant healthcare degree.
Must be able to maintain own credibility in a clinical setting whilst having the ability to motivate and counsel staff in a teaching and clinical environment.
Able to provide evidence of own continuing professional development.
Desirable
Post graduate teaching qualification or willingness to complete one within an agreed timeframe.
Hold or be prepared to complete the “Level 3 award in Assessing Competence in the work environment” and “Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment level 4 Certificate” (IQA ).
Knowledge
Essential
Clinical knowledge gained from working in a healthcare organisation.
Knowledge of quality assurance standards and regulatory body requirements.
Experience of supporting and providing academic and pastoral supervision to students.
Desirable
Possess an extensive knowledge of the government policies and procedures which regulate NVQ /RQF and BTEC provision.
