Job Purpose

Responsible for managing the learning process including classroom teaching, tutorials, associated outreach and open and distance learning programmes and student placements for a specific group.

Job Specific Outcomes

The following provides a definition of the Supply Lecturers’ Task:

 

  • Identify learning needs of individuals and groups, prepare and deliver lectures, seminars and tutorials to enable students to meet assessments and examination requirements.
  • Assist in curriculum development, planning and evaluation of courses and course materials and lead specialist programmes as required.
  • Contribute to team meetings, including course monitoring and course assessment to ensure objectives are being met.
  • Set and mark student work for assessment and examination, identify previously acquired competencies, verify assessment procedures maintain relevant records for report writing, references, records of achievement for internal and external verification/validation purposes.
  • Take responsibility for your own continuing professional development, appropriate in- service training and evaluate and disseminate advances in training and development in order to facilitate individual and organisational learning.
  • Assist in ensuring the College environment meets health and safety and security requirements.
  • Recognise personal welfare needs of students, & initiate appropriate referrals. Monitor & develop the standards of students’ behaviour in order to provide additional support where a student is not completing a study programme as planned.
  • Identify course requirements and use resources allocated in order to create environment(s) conducive to learning of individuals and groups.
  • Any other duties required by the Head of College for the successful achievement of the job purpose.

Knowledge and Experience

• A requisite teaching qualification within the Qualified Teaching Learning & Skills framework.
• Evidence or capability of achieving level two literacy and numeracy).
• Evidence of a degree or appropriate technical or professional qualification
• Evidence of relevant academic, industrial or commercial experience
• An ability to communicate fluently and effectively
• An ability to work flexibly as part of a team
• An ability to motivate and inspire learners
• An ability to meet the requirements of examination and assessment bodies
• A preparedness to adhere to Continual Professional Development requirements
